A slate handles everything else: a change of plan, a depth to hold, a species name, a problem that has no signal. What is a proper buddy check?
A run-through of BCD, weights, releases, air and a final okay, using whatever mnemonic your agency taught. Skipping it is behind a large share of preventable incidents.
Can I write underwater in gloves?
With thick gloves it is awkward, which is worth practising before you need it. A pencil on a lanyard is more reliable underwater than most alternatives.
